Yang Hansen (Chinese: 杨瀚森; born June 26, 2005) is a Chinese professional basketball player currently with the Portland Trail Blazers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was taken 16th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies and then traded to the Trail Blazers. Yang is the ninth player from China ever drafted into the NBA, and the third-highest Chinese pick in draft history.
Born in Zibo, Shandong Province, on June 26, 2005, Yang began playing basketball as a child. He joined a club program in the third grade and later attended Zibo Sports School. Around 2020, he entered the youth system of the Qingdao Guoxin Haitian Club at the club’s invitation. In 2021, the Qingdao Guoxin Haitian youth team beat Tsinghua High School in the U17 National Championship final, with Yang earning Best Defensive Player. The team repeated as U17 champions in 2022, and Yang was named Most Valuable Player.
In the 2023–24 CBA season, Yang was promoted to the Qingdao Eagles’ first team and made his professional debut on October 23, 2023, in the regular-season opener against Beijing Enterprises. He was selected as a North Division starter for the All-Star Game. NBA scouts visited Qingdao multiple times during his rookie year to evaluate him, but he chose not to enter the 2024 NBA Draft. After averaging 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists, he was named both Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
On June 25, 2025, Yang was selected 16th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. His draft rights were subsequently traded to the Portland Trail Blazers along with future considerations in exchange for the rights to Cedric Coward. Yang became the ninth Chinese player drafted into the NBA, the highest Chinese draft pick since Yi Jianlian in 2007, and the third-highest Chinese pick all time.
Yang represented China at the 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, averaging 12.6 points, 10.4 rebounds (third in the tournament), 4.7 assists (fourth), and 5.0 blocks (first). He was selected to the All-Second Team. In February 2024, he made his senior national team debut in the 2025 FIBA Asian Cup qualifiers against Mongolia.
